Charlie Hudgins
Hometown : Baltimore, Maryland then Deltaville
Charlie has been a hard worker all his life. He enlisted in the armed forces when he was 18, served overseas, then returned to build a long career working for a transit company in Baltimore, Maryland. For 41 years, he drove streetcars, buses and finally subway cars. Retirement didn’t bring him much rest, though. “I worked more after I retired,” said Charlie, now 84. For many years, he took care of his ailing wife 24 hours a day. Now is his time to relax and rely on someone else. Charlie appreciates the care that’s available to him around the clock at Commonwealth Assisted Living at Kilmarnock – from the well-prepared meals to the medical services he receives. When he moved from his home in Deltaville to Kilmarnock more than four years ago, he wasn’t so sure it was the move for him. “My son told me to move here, and I’m glad he did,” Charlie said. With so many activities to choose from at Commonwealth Assisted Living at Kilmarnock, Charlie likes to dabble in a little bit of everything – from friendly card games to organized trips around the county. His favorite hobby? Making friends. The community’s screened porch, decked out in comfortable rockers, is the perfect place for him to work his magic. “That front porch is really nice – especially when it gets warm,” said Charlie. Trying to pin down his favorite part about living at Commonwealth Assisted Living at Kilmarnock is a tough job. According to Charlie, there’s no down side to be found. “I like everything here. It’s just a good place to be,” he said. |
