Community LifeBeing active is important to residents of The Ballentine. To keep up with their vital approach to living, our enthusiastic and creative Activities Director plans an extensive list of social and enrichment events to appeal to all interests. Our staff and many caring volunteers add to the selection of events on a regular basis. Regular games include word puzzles, nickel bingo and bridge, while other activity choices include painting classes in a sunny solarium, exercise groups and musical gatherings. Our extraordinary Rebecca Gwaltney Gray Garden at The Ballentine was designed to offer both tranquility and stimulation to residents, who marvel at the variety and arrangement of both the plants and landscape features in all four seasons. Dedicated in memory of a local resident, the walled garden is an unusual and inviting space which distinguishes The Ballentine as a community committed to providing residents with a beautiful and comfortable living environment. Reading is a popular pastime with residents at The Ballentine, so our small library is always stocked with popular books and novels. A text magnifier device is handy for residents that may need it. The Norfolk Public Library Bookmobile also makes regular stops at The Ballentine, for residents looking for a wider selection of reading material. Volunteers from the community also come in weekly to read to residents in our activity room. Residents of The Ballentine will always find opportunities to make friends, stimulate their minds and feed their spirits. Resident Activity Calendars include offerings like:
