Richard J. Brewer
President & CEO
Mr. Brewer is the entrepreneurial leader of Commonwealth Assisted Living and has been intimately involved in its formation and growth. He has been in the senior housing industry for almost 20 years and also involved in the acquisitions of assisted living featuring multi-family properties and the in-home personal care agency during that time. Richard has overseen all operational aspects of each sector including licensing compliance, resident care, marketing, personnel management, medication administration and fiscal management. In addition to operations, he has been involved in numerous facility transactions including new development, acquisitions, dispositions and refinances. He currently serves at the Vice Chair on the Board of The Virginia Assisted Living Association as well as the Jefferson Area Board on Aging.
Victoria L. Morris
Chief Financial Officer
Mrs. Morris is in charge of the bookkeeping operations for all of our facilities. She brings 20 years of experience in managing the financial operations of assisted living facilities. By centralizing bookkeeping operations in our home office, we are able to achieve savings for our clients’ facilities. In addition to handling AR, AP, Payroll and General Ledger, she handles budgeting and cost control for our facilities. Additionally, Vicky brings experience with the IRS, sales tax and state audits, HUD record-keeping, bookkeeping of over 25 different business entities, preparation of numerous loan packages, as well as due diligence preparation and scrutiny for both sale and acquisition..
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Parker is responsible for providing strategic direction and support to Commonwealth Assisted Living, Commonwealth Residential Living, and Stay at Home Personal Care. Parker’s experience includes more than 20 years of progressive leadership positions in the hospitality and senior living industries. In that time he was an integral part of the leadership/growth team for two large senior living owner/operators and has supported more than 60 senior living communities, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and CCRC’s.
Earl earned his Masters of Business Administration from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Kenan Flagler Business School. He graduated from Johnson and Wales University earning a B.S. degree in Hospitality Management. Earl has most recently served as the Vice President of the North Carolina Assisted Living Association.
Division Vice President
Mrs. Higgs oversees the day-to-day operation of each of our facilities. She has been in the industry for 19 years, first as Administrator and then as Regional Vice President, overseeing the operation of 8 separate assisted living facilities. Nancy has experience with both new development and turn-around facilities, and has worked to standardize operations in each of our buildings. To ensure their success, she has developed a strong relationship with the Department of Social Services, and completes Quality Assurance reviews to ensure we exceed standards.
President of Stay At Home Personal Care
Mr. Ix brings to Stay at Home Personal Care a broad range of experience and commitment to seniors. He has been working with seniors for the past 13 years. Mr., Ix had previously been the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Commonwealth Assisted Living (CAL) before taking the helm of Stay at Home. He oversaw the growth of CAL from 532 residents to 786 residents in a 2.5 year period. Previously as owner and administrator of Assured Home Health Care, Charles guided the company to triple digit growth and managed its subsequent sale to private investors. He then created a partnership with the Jefferson Area Board of Aging (JABA) and started My Home for Life, LLC. My Home for Life, LLC currently provides products and services to seniors wanting to stay safely in their homes. Charles is a founding board member and current treasurer of Mountainside Senior Living, a non-profit assisted living facility in Crozet, VA.
Donna S. Finch-Hunt, LPN
Vice President of Nursing Services
Ms. Finch has been a Licensed Practical Nurse for 38 years and has spent the last 23 years in assisted living. Having worked in positions as diverse as Activity Director, Director of Nursing, and Administrator in settings as varied as small assisted living facilities to large, free-standing Alzheimer’s buildings, she has a broad and balanced perspective of the services we provide. Her priority is to ensure the quality of care our residents receive.
Cheryl C. Brunk
Ms. Brunk brings 23 years of industry experience. She has been involved in the formation and organization of numerous assisted living facilities as well as other multi-family housing projects. Cheryl has an extensive knowledge of operational policies for assisted living facilities, as well as employment policies and procedures pertinent to our industry. She manages all of our insurance issues and exposures, including property, liability, and workers compensation insurance, as well as unemployment claims and licensing.
Michael Stumbaugh, PE
Construction and Development Manager
Mike is a professional engineer with over twenty years of experience in the construction, renovation and management of administrative, educational, research, industrial and energy production facilities. He currently directs the Commonwealth Assisted Living construction program and is engaged in development planning to support future enhancements. The goal is to provide highly functioning assisted living and memory care facilities that create positive environments for residents and staff.
