Assisted Living

At Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor, we invite residents to enjoy the best of both worlds – the support they need and the lifestyle they want!

We know that seniors want to remain living an independent, active and meaningful lifestyle. But we also understand that there may come a time when they need support with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing or eating.

Our assisted living program blends active independence with 24-hour support, creating a perfectly balanced lifestyle.

Personalized Care

At Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor, we do not believe in “one-size-fits-all” care. After all, no two residents will have the same needs, abilities or preferences. To provide the most appropriate care possible, we develop personalized care plans for each resident.

To develop these plans, our specially trained caregivers meet directly with residents, their family members and personal physicians. The care plans deliver the care that is needed, but also identify and support retained abilities, promoting each resident’s independence.

An Active Lifestyle

While the need for support may have brought our residents to our doors, we respect that their desire to live full, engaging, active lifestyles hasn’t changed at all. To keep our residents involved and inspired, we offer dynamic lifestyle programming, including:

  • Travel the World program that brings the culture, music, food and art of different countries right to our residents
  • Holistic therapies, such as music, art and reminiscing
  • Off-site excursions

Memory Care

Sweet MemoriesTM Memory Care in Chesapeake, VA

Those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia require and deserve specialized care. Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor’s Sweet Memories™ program was designed to meet those needs and deliver that care.

At the very heart of Sweet MemoriesTM is our dedicated team of caregivers. Certified in Virtual Dementia Tour® training, these special people have a very personal and thorough understanding of the challenges presented by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

An Award-Winning Memory Care Program

Sweet Memories™ has been carefully and purposefully designed to deliver the highest quality of care to our residents and provide peace of mind to their families.

From our vibrant and welcoming memory care neighborhoods to our management team, every aspect of the program has been selected to ensure that your loved one and your family have an uplifting memory care experience with us.

A resident-centered program, Sweet Memories™ features three primary components to aid in the transition process and help ensure our residents get the very most out of their memory care.

Primary Components

Move-in: Whether moving to Commonwealth Senior Living at Georgian Manor from home or hospital, we guide our residents through every step of this journey, meeting every need, from physical to emotional.

Evaluation through life history: Residents shape their own care, so we start by getting to know each as an individual. We conduct a comprehensive interview with family members, asking questions, listening and learning. We consider all aspects of life, including medical, mental, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs, as well as habits and preferences.

Resident-centered care plan: Once we have our resident’s life story, we create a customized care plan to meet their specific needs and promote their specific strengths.

Sweet Memories™ Signature Programs

You’ll only find them here! Our innovative programming makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our residents and their families.

One Sweet Memory: Winner of the Best Practice Award from the Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA), for going above and beyond the standards of care. Community staff regularly captures highlights of each resident’s day in photographs that are shared regularly with family members.

Expressions: When verbal skills begin to fail, art can become a means of self-expression for residents. Conversational prompting stimulates memories which residents can interpret using a variety of mediums, including painting.

Special Touch: Designed specifically for those with late-stage memory loss, this program provides “special touches” that make a difference in care. In the morning, before breakfast, residents enjoy citrus scented towels to awaken taste buds; before dinner, lavender scented towels help to relax, reinforce the natural circadian rhythm and encourage residents to enjoy their meals.

Sweet Melodies: For those with latter stage dementia who have lost verbal skills, Sweet Melodies stirs memories by using nostalgic music selected by family members.

SMILE Technology: Through SMILE™, we can remain connected to your loved one every day. This computer program enables us to keep you updated on your loved one’s participation in and enjoyment of our programming, sharing photos and stories with you on a daily basis.

Memory Care Life Stations: Thoughtful spaces that help your loved one to reconnect and engage with past hobbies, professions and passions.

The Georgian Manor at Riverwalk was a friendly place and the staff welcomed us seemed to care unlike other place I've seen. The rooms were nice and well kept. As nice as the facility is there planning upgrades to enhance it even more. The staff was prompt to answer any questions we asked and made us feel comfortable. The grounds were well kept and maintained. The location was easy to find and has a very classic look to it. The best part about the whole experience, is knowing that my great grandfather is taken care of from caring staff and I don't have to worry about him. The Georgian Manor allows my family and I to have a peace of mind when it comes to his health and that is in the right hands if any was to happen. I thank everyone a this facility for helping my family and I out. Thanks

Thought all personnel were very friendly; loved the courtyards; bedrooms were larger than Cedar Manor and had a bath/shower in the room.

I like the private rooms and the cost seemed quite good for all the included services! Dad chose this one! So we put down the deposit!

My grandmother has been a resident at Georgian Manor for years and loves it! I have volunteered at many assisted living/retirement homes and I have seen NOTHING as clean and well-cared for as this facility.

After living at another ALF for almost 2 years, we decided to move my grandparents to be closer to us. We chose Georgian Manor and we are so glad that we did. The staff is great and does a much better job at communicating with us that the other place did. My grandparents seem so much happier now and I am impressed with the activities offered by Georgian Manor. Their apartment is very bright and open which also contributes to their better mood.

In December of 2012, my sister and I had to make a crucial decision regarding my uncle who had developed Dementia. It was a decision, unfortunately, that many family members have to make concerning their loved ones. During my uncle's stay as a resident at Georgian Manor, the Executive Director walked us through some very difficult moments as my uncle's health began to decline. She always had a listening ear and mouth full of wisdom. In the hands of the Executive Director and her staff, Georgian Manor would be the right fit for you or loved ones needs.

I felt like Georgian Manor was the right size and that my husband wouldn’t get lost there as far as locating from where his room is to the dining room and living room area. Right now, they only have maybe 22 patients in the memory care department, and I felt like that was a nice group for my husband. The staff was very friendly, very happy, and caring. I can’t say enough nice things about the staff. They were very helpful to me and made my husband feel like he was very special. It’s a nice big room; he has a dresser, a bed, a TV, and his own bathroom. The food has been very good, my husband has eaten very well, and he is not complaining at all about the food.

Commonwealth is very nice place. I haven't lived at the assisted living, but I have lived in the independent living in their other place over at Radford. Then I found this house available for rent so I moved. I really like it. It is an attached house where I have three bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining area, and a living room. It is a very nice and very lovely home. I have a gas fireplace and a sunroom. There is no outside care because it is taken care of for us. Last night they had the Blacksburg Community Orchestra there and had an ice cream social. Before the concert, they had hors d'oeuvres, and that was quite nice. The help are very nice people, but they don't seem to be extremely well trained. I believe they can be better trained. They do have transportation to different places like to doctors if you need it.

The Georgian Manor is a really nice place. The staff seems to be very interested in the residents. I feel like my mother is safe there. They always check on her. They chat with her and they seem interested in what she does. I think strongly enough of it to recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a place for their mom or dad. The location is good. The food is good as well. My mom always comments about how good it is.

I visited Georgian Manor. I felt like it had a very homey atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. They looked engaged. The rooms were very spacious. There were lots of activities. They have bands that would come in, they would do dancing stuff on the Wii, and they have exercise, just to name a few. I think for its location, the staff, and the room sizes, Georgian Manor would be a place that I feel comfortable having my mother.

The staff at Georgian Manor has been very good and very attentive to my mother and that is really the main thing. So based on their attention to detail with my mother I would have to give them a five-star rating.

My mother and I are very hard to please. She recently stayed at this facility for seven days to give me a respite and I must say the service and stay were superior. The dining accommodations were great and meals very well prepared. The rooms are large and inviting; and the staff was very caring, supportive, and accommodating. My mother (who didn't want to go) was sad to leave. Without a doubt, I highly recommend this facility.

The staff was amazing at Georgian Manor. It’s a very large, very nice, and well-kept community. I could see everybody who works there loved their job. The food was really great, and they actually grow their own produce. The rooms were very nice but a little bit expensive for us. They had a lot of activities for their residents and a lot of opportunities for the residents’ families to come in and join in their activities.

I visited Georgian Manor. The people were very nice. It was a beautiful place with lots of light. I liked some of the rooms. We had dinner there, which was very good. They had a variety of games and things to do, and a cute library area where they had snacks and drinks set up, or you could sit there and read or something in a very nice area with a little table and a few seats. They had some drinks like lemonade, water, and tea and different snacks. The staff was wonderful and all very nice.

The staff at Georgian Manor is excellent. They are very friendly and help my mom whenever she needs it. There is a great variety of food to choose from and it is good. They have a calendar of daily activities for her to choose from. The community is clean and very well maintained. I would recommend this community.

Georgian Manor seemed very nicely laid out and had nice activities. The staff member was very friendly and helpful, and she was telling us about the calendar of activites and the things that went on. They had different activities each month, like Mexican month. The dining area was not really big, but the tables were formally set up. The overall layout was what impressed me the most. There was a nice garden area in the middle.

My parents moved into assisted living at another location in July, 2016. Because mom is in mid-stage Alzheimer's, my parents were forced into the late-stage, lock-down memory care unit. They were miserable. We toured other locations., but Georgian Manor stood out. The brand identity is that of a "community" for seniors in their "sunshine years" (instead of the usual, sterile "facility"). The community is equipped for Aging in Place, which means my parents can enjoy residential/assisted living, together, as long as reasonably possible, during my mom's Alzheimer's journey. The staff is exceptionally qualified in senior care. LPNs provide excellent oversight and management of personalized care plans. Med-Techs are on-site around the clock to administer medications which is a critical need for my parents. Maintenance is genuinely happy to help residents with moving furniture, getting cable/tv up and running, etc. The dining/hospitality is FIRST RATE and provides residents with ability to choose their meals. Menus include nutritious meals/snacks and local fare. There is a monthly activity calendar with a range of activities designed to engage & stimulate across dimensions: Physical, Spiritual, Creative, Music, Field Trips, and Family Nights. I was touched when I received photos/updates of my parents participating in activities. Pricing is comparable to other assisted living communities in Chesapeake with options to meet financial goals. When it's time for mom to move to memory care, she'll experience a differentiated program called "Sweet Memories" focused on artistic/creative engagement with dementia residents. My entire family is beyond impressed with Georgian Manor--I think you will be too.

The community gets five stars for staff. Everyone I met exudes a positivity and seems to like what they are doing to contribute to the whole. They are attentive to the resident's needs. The rooms have a full bath with a large shower that is easily accessible for someone with limited mobility. Some of the rooms have a kitchenette and residents can have a small refrigerator/microwave of their own if space allows. The rooms are one open area so the sitting area of larger rooms is within view of the bed, dresser, closet etc.

Georgian Manor was an absolutely lovely place. If my mother had the money and was not as physically disabled as she is, then this is where I would want her to go. I had a nice conversation with the director, and they had wonderful activities that I know my mother would have been interested in. They do have a totally separate unit for memory care, which is also very nicely done, and I liked that. It was a really lovely neighborhood. I walked out of there feeling very positive. The problem is that it was a two-story, large place, which with my mother’s limitations would have made it difficult for her. My mother probably needs only assisted living as she could not have managed to get around by herself. It was a beautiful place. The staff was wonderful. All of them came up and introduced themselves to me. I met quite a few of the staff who were very positive and hopeful to see my mom. The overall experience was great. The people were great and the staff was great. I loved the place and the neighborhood it was in. This would have been the place for my mother.

My mom is a new resident at Georgian Manor. I live out of the area while my mom worked on getting her cell phone number set up I had to call Georgian Manor to reach her. The staff was very helpful & went way beyond the call of duty to make sure my mom & I connected. I recently spent several hours visiting with my mom (including a meal in the dining area). I was so impressed with the staff/resident interaction. All of the staff seemed to genuinely care for the residents. They called each by name & gave each a comforting touch on the shoulder or arm. During the meal a staff member was always close by but allowed the residents their independence too. The residents all seemed extremely happy & well-cared for.

The past three weeks of our lives have been an emotional roller coaster for my family. My parents have been married for 72,they are both 93 years old. For the past year or so my mom has been caring for my dad who has Altzheimers. She herself was in the hospital a few weeks ago. Where do we turn, what do we do now. We visited several assisted living facilities and nothing was right until we visited Georgian Manor. What a breath of fresh air !!! I could immediately tell my mom was thrilled. I could see a sigh of relief come upon her. She needed help and she found the place where she could be comfortable. Let me mention Maria, the Executive Director, unbelievable. She immediately took us under her wing, taking us around, and introducing my mom to staff members. Each and every one of them delightful and welcoming, she also introduced us to some residents of what she calls "the community" I love that !!!! After our visit when we got in the car, my mom was so upbeat and smiling all the way home. She knew she found her new home. That evening when Maria left the "community" on her way home, she stopped by my parents house to meet my dad. He wasn't with us for the tour. And when she left, she asked if she could hug them goodbye. I got goosebumps watching her. This woman has the patience of a saint!!! It's as if God knew right where to place her for her career. Oh, did I mention Georgian Manor? It's lovely, absolutely a great place. It's only been 4 days but I have to tell you that my mom sounds like a different person. She loves it there. I think she thinks she's eating at a restaurant three times a day. She raves about the food. She is finally in a place where she is safe and cared for and she is finally getting help with my dad as well. We are all feeling the peace today and recommend strongly that you visit and ask for Maria, she's always available and that's incredible too.
